Amazing Sensors: Foxes and Magnetic Fields?
Red foxes dive dramatically into the snow to catch mice— but they’re much more successful at hunting when they’re facing north!
Many animals (especially migratory creatures like fish and birds) may be able to sense shifts in the earth’s magnetic field, just how humans can taste different flavors of ice cream or feel different textures of fabric. Bees even know whether or not flowers are pollinated by sensing the electromagnetic fields on flower petals!
But don’t be sad that you’re not as magnetically well-calibrated as this fox— just come to Maker Fest to play with sensors for yourself.
